President Obama has weighed in on the Trayvon Martin case, calling it a tragedy, urging cooperation among law enforcement and “soul searching” among all of us.

“If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon,” the Commander-in-Chief said, underscoring how the issue affected him on a personal, and not just a political or legal, level.

Of what Martin’s parents are suffering through, Obama said:

“I think they are right to expect that all of us are going to take this with the seriousness it deserves, and we are going to get to the bottom of what happened.”

Geraldo Rivera the comment that sparked an outrage and the Hoodie Movement

Trayvon Martin was killed by George Zimmerman in February and since Americans have been outraged, this case has become a symbol of the black man code which states:

Always pay close attention to your surroundings, son, especially if you are in an affluent neighborhood where black folks are few. Understand that even though you are not a criminal, some people might assume you are, especially if you are wearing certain clothes.

Never argue with police, but protect your dignity and take pride in humility. When confronted by someone with a badge or a gun, do not flee, fight, or put your hands anywhere other than up.

Please don’t assume, son, that all white people view you as a threat. America is better than that. Suspicion and bitterness can imprison you. In Support of Trayvon Martin New York State Lawmakers

African-American legislators Eric Adams, Kevin Parker, and Bill Perkins plan to wear hoodies to the N.Y. state chamber this afternoon. The NY Daily News reports that they are protesting in honor of the Trayvon Martin tragedy, and plan to lead other black lawmakers to do the same. Martin was wearing a hoodie as he walked home, when a neighborhood watch volunteer shot and killed him in Sanford, Florida(http://www.thegrio.com/specials/trayvon-martin/black-senators-to-wear-hoodies-to-state-chamber-for-trayvon-martin.php).

The Rev. Jesse Jackson compared city leaders to Pontius Pilate for failing to arrest George Zimmerman, the man who said he shot down Martin in self-defense after reporting him to police as a suspicious person, and then apparently confronting him.

Marc Morial, president of the National Urban League, compared the case to the notorious 1955 lynching of Emmett Till, in Mississippi, which catalyzed the midcentury civil rights movement. “We will not rest, we will not stop, until there is justice for Trayvon Martin,” he said.

“Sanford is a beautiful city,” Sharpton told the commission, but “you are risking going down as the Birmingham and Selma of the 21st century.”

Trayvon Martin’s autopsy:

The autopsy Does it support  whether Zimmerman was standing when he fired? Or was he lying on his back in a defensive position? Does it indicate the angle of the gunshot wound?

Zimmerman has said that he noticed Martin that night in part because the youth was acting strangely — and possibly on drugs. Was he? Martin had reportedly been suspended from school days earlier after he was found to have an empty marijuana baggie. Family members have not confirmed this but say they’re outraged at what’s being labeled blame-the-victim reporting.

The autopsy may provide key evidence in a case making national and international headlines amid allegations of racism. But the public won’t get a look at it until the investigation is complete.

The Volusia County Medical Examiner’s office, the body that “independently, objectively and scientifically determines the cause and manner of death under certain circumstances,” handled the autopsy.

For now, that report remains under seal, spokesman Dave Byron told The Times. It has been forwarded to the Seminole County branch of the Florida state attorney’s office and won’t be made public while the investigation is pending.

That office, as well as the FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice, are among the agencies investigating the Feb. 26 shooting.

Sanford law enforcement sources recently told the Orlando Sentinel that there’s evidence to suggest Martin might have been the aggressor in the incident. Police say those leaks were unauthorized but confirm that the information contained in the Sentinel’s article was “consistent” with the details the agency provided prosecutors.

In the absence of evidence from the autopsy report, everyone — media included — is speculating about what happened at the scene of the shooting.

“It will be interesting to see what kinds of defensive wounds Trayvon had on the autopsy report,” one follower said Monday on Twitter.

“…a witness claimed Zimmerman was on top of Trayvon Martin. Was an autopsy done?” asked another tweet.

It could be weeks, if not months, before the medical examiner’s report is made public. A Seminole County grand jury will convene April 10 on the case.

Protesters, meanwhile, promise that they won’t let up until they have answers — and justice.

American have shown an out pouring of support to the family of Trayvon Martin.

Alguns legisladores do Estado de Nova York em apoio a Trayvon Martin 

Legisladores afro-americanos, tais como Eric Adams, Kevin Parker e Bill Perkins planejam usar casacos e capuz como os do menino morto na câmara de estado NY como protesto aos comentários preconceituosos. Apontam os relatos do NY Daily News que eles estão protestando em honra a tragédia e pretendem levar outros legisladores negros a fazer o mesmo. Martin estava usando um capuz enquanto caminhava para casa, quando um vigia de bairro atirou e matou em Sanford.

O reverendo Jesse Jackson comparou os líderes da cidade de Pôncio Pilatos por não prender Zimmerman, o homem que disse ter matado Martin em legítima defesa após denunciá-lo à polícia como uma pessoa suspeita e ter lhe confrontado fisicamente.

Autópsia de Trayvon Martin:

Na autópsia, pergunta-se Zimmerman estava de pé quando ele foi alvejado? Ou ele estava deitado de costas em uma posição defensiva? Será que indicam o ângulo da ferida de bala?

Zimmerman disse que notou Martin naquela noite em parte porque o jovem estava agindo estranhamente – e possivelmente estava sob efeito de drogas.

Questionam se Martin teria sido suspenso da escola depois que ele foi encontrado com um saquinho vazio de maconha. Os membros da família não confirmaram isso, mas dizem que estão indignados com o que está sendo rotulado.

A autópsia pode fornecer evidências-chave no caso nas manchetes nacionais e internacionais em meio a acusações de racismo. O público espera que a investigação seja concluída com brevidade.

“… Uma testemunha afirmou que Zimmerman estava no sobre Trayvon Martin. Foi realizada uma autópsia?” Perguntou outro tweet.

Pode levar semanas, se não meses, até que o relatório do médico legista seja  tornado público. O júri do condado de Seminole County se reunirá no dia 10 de abril para discutir o caso.

Os manifestantes, por sua vez, prometem que não vão deixar o local até que eles tenham respostas da justiça.
